Mac Cpu Usage With Studio Monitors Ableton

I am pretty confused about Live 8's cpu usage. I first noticed sound dropping out during playback, despite live's cpu meter being fairly low. I am using 8.1.3 with a dual core 2.53ghz MBP. I generally find that activity monitor says that live is using about 2 times more cpu than live's own cpu meter says. If i turn multicore support on, activity monitor shows no difference, but live's cpu meter drops down, making the difference about 3 times. But its when the activity monitor shows cpu running out, not when live shows it that the sound drops out. So turning multicore support on actually makes no difference in when sound drops out!

Jul 19, 2019  I got a massive problem with cpu usage when using pigments. When I use it as VST Plugin in Ableton live and open it via plug-in-editor the CPU usage goes up to around 70%. If I close it its about 16%. This happens without playing a sound or live playing. Sep 03, 2015  Another is freezing. You need to know what uses a lot of CPU and what doesn’t. Comparing CPU use of different devices. I thought a way to compare the CPU use of different devices accurately, for a given computer. What I do is simply load up 100 of something (on separate tracks) and see what the CPU use is. Ableton vs FL Studio are the 2 biggest DAWs for electronic music, and deciding on a DAW to stick with can be hard. Most features have been ported over (with some glitches included), but there is no 32bit version of FL Studio for Mac, and your 32bit Audio Units won’t work, even if your 32bit VSTs do. Ableton is pretty good on CPU.

Activity monitor also shows live using about 15% when first opened, despite live saying 0%.
I have tried changing audio buffer size, this does affect both cpu usage readouts, but the 2 or 3 times difference is always there no matter what its set to.
any advice would be much appreciated
thanks!
